the american people have seen direct unfiltered view of romney and ryan and understand these are two very competent individuals who understand that we can turn the economy around, that, you know, you know, unemployment rates that we've had for four years now, and income going down 4500, gas prices doubling, we have got a plan to turn that around, and these are the gentlemen to do it. they believe in the american people and their ability to do it. connell: does governor romney have to make -- >> -- they will attack and do whatever they have to do, but fortunately our guys can stay on task and have the american people see them for the competent committed individuals they are. connell: does governor romney have to make any adjustments given that the president will no doubt fire back more often? the obama supporters will tell you that he missed opportunities in the first debate, that he should have said xy or z and responded and said no governor romney that's not true. is the governor prepared to defend himself even though he's the challenger because the tables have kind of turned a litt

debate performance made him kind of seal the deal for the romney/ryan ticket. i don't think in actuality and people will be upset when i say this but i don't think this debate is going to determine in the polls -- i don't think you're going to see a bump. i think it will go back to next week's debate when you have the presidential debate and what obama does and how romney performs. this was full of. it is fun to talk about but i don't think it will move one iota in the polls. ashley: you agree with that so let's move it forward to the presidential debate. we saw joe biden become a lot more aggressive. do you expect that from the president and is there a line he must cross that could really turn the focus? >> the president will get more aggressive and he is going to observe the line since it is a town hall debate with real people you can only go so far when you are with an audience and when your opponent is walking around. he is going to try to clarify the differences in a way that joe biden also did last night. tracy: when clarifying differences you point out i

take a look at today's winners on the s&p 500: dagen: cheaper energy and more jobs, the romney ryan camp putting the keystone pipeline back in the national spotlight. we track all of our money that is going to the solar panel industry in china. and that ominous dark cloud hanging overhead, not connell, was expected to be a lousy season for quarterly earnings. some of the names in question coming up in today's trade. connell: give you a name in question. bottom of the hour let's go back the nicole in now who is not in question at all. eli lilly? nicole: highest level since 08. we're talking about an experimental alzheimer's drug which did well for eli lilly so far in the experiment. let's take a look here, up 1/2% -- up 3 1/2%. experimental drug for alzheimer's. led to 34% reduction in memory decline for patients with mild symptoms over a period of 18 months. that's a pretty good showing. that's why we saw the stock jumping. speaking of jumping, i wanted to also take a look at some names that have hit some 52 week highs today. i know some of them have pulled back and you may see some red

/ryan in the white house. dennis: what about our vice president? what does he need to do? >> the first thing he cannot do is have a gas. team needs to get the obama campaign back on track. it is a tall order for him. he has been in the senate for a long time and vice president for four years and a senior statesman who will be on stage. i do think the pressures on him to hit a home run tonight and even saturday night live goofed on him. if you're counting on joe biden to save you the campaign is in trouble. dennis: by the same token given expectations for joe biden, can he win the debate by avoiding a gaffe? >> he is going to try to make all look like the count with a green eyeshade that isn't caring and go on the attack. the obama campaign has signaled they are going to go on the attack tonight and in the next presidential debate and if he does come across without making a mistake he will look like having a good night. dennis: the vice presidential candidates have to talk about their leader. not about themselv

ryan should try to shake the things up. and go after obama's record too. dagen: doug, what about the getting -- you talked about how romney needs to present himself and how he needs to portray himself? how do you do that? because one of the criticisms of the romney campaign has been how they're spending their money and the advertising they have been doing which has been lackluster to say the least. >> you are pointing dagen to one of the areas i think we both feel they could improve. i think they need ads that speak directly to what i was saying before and what john has been talking about both here and elsewhere, which is how the romney plan reducing taxes, regulation, cutting spending, will result in a better america and a better life for the american people. >> yeah, dagen, if you were to go get an interview for a job in any business, you would not go in there and sit during the interview trashing the guy that had the job before you. you would try to sell your potential boss, here's what i bring to the table, what i would do, if you hire me to this job.

we heard mitt romney say president obama, you're cutting the medicare program but the paul ryan plan has the same numbers. the details they squeeze out of paul ryan will be worth watching. cheryl: great stuff. fox business has live coverage starting at 8:00 eastern with our very own big cheese, neil cavuto on the scene. i asked what he thinks -- [talking over each other] he seems like he loves the big cheese and sucking up that we do, he appreciates. have you seen shares today? they are flying. lot of speculation the takeover target reports the japanese company could buy a majority stake and we head to the nyse for sales on that. cheryl: some good news on the housing front but not everyone. red tape is bogging down certain states. we will explain ahead and look at metals as we head to break as well. take a look at the gold trading higher on the day by 0.4%. we will be right back. on the company phone list that's a few names longer. you see us bank on busier highways. on once empty fields. everyday you see all the ways all of us at us bank are helping grow our economy. nding more so c
